ANNIE BLAZEJACK & GEDDES LEVENSON

Geddes Levenson and Annie Blazejack both grew up in Miami, Florida, and have been creating and exhibiting work together for more than a decade. Their paintings and installations investigate the evolving relationship between humans and the ecosystems that sustain them—relationships made ever more precarious as the realities of climate change intensify.

They work to the backdrop of fiction audiobooks, a habit that shapes the narrative sensibility of their practice. “We want our narrative paintings to feel a bit like novels,” they explain, “with complex stories, layered meanings, and conflicting interpretations. We want viewers to ask, ‘What’s happening?’, ‘What’s about to happen?’, and, of course, ‘Why?’”

Both are lifelong swimmers and former water-polo players, and water remains central to their imagery. “Perhaps because we feel powerful in the water,” they say, “we are drawn to paint these swimming figures—the alligator women.” [Geddes just finished a 2-mile open water race.]

Annie Blazejack received her MFA from The School of the Museum of Fine arts, Boston/ Tufts University, and Geddes Levenson received her MFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY.  Blazejack and Levenson recently showed 42 paintings at the Vero Beach Museum of Art (2025).
