Miyuki Delica beads were invented in 1974 by Masayoshi Katsuoka of the Miyuki Co., Ltd. in Japan as a modern, uniform, and precise alternative to antique French steel-cut beads. Their cylindrical shape and uniform size are ideal for bead weaving, such as peyote and brick stitch, creating smooth, flat, and intricate designs. Miyuki's innovation has made Delicas a "world standard" for quality and precision in the beading world.
I had seen these beads on adds and became obsessed with them. I had no idea what they were and did not even know how to begin looking, beading was not my craft. Then one day, my husband received a necklace made with these tiny beads and I could not believe it, there they were, the elusive bead now had a name: Miyuki Delica, Japanese glass bead. I went crazy buying different colors, trying different ways to thread them, they are micro at 1.5mm-1.6mm, they will teach you patience and I loved it! 4 years since I started beading and it is the more present I ever am.
I thread by hand, one by one, I do not use any tools for beading, because I don’t know what the design will be until it is finished. It is intuitive, inspired in the moment and every time it is a surprise, a meditative process, a practice that allows my soul to heal. Simple, elegant, and versatile each piece is one of a kind. I also use gold-filled, sterling silver and semi precious stones accents to enhance their beauty.
I am so excited to present these pieces in collaboration with ROQUE, GUARD is a collection made to signify protection and heavenly guidance.
I started Amlove Design, my brand of intentional art out of grief for my dad, his name was Guardo. Through Amlove Design I have been able to express the magnitude of love, not lost but converted into something truly sacred. The feather in my logo is him. Always guiding, always my protector, my GUARDO.
